Official first sign of Spring!

Some peepers tuning up!
The 25th was in the mid 60’s and a good amount of precipitation in the morning hours and I’m sure that was when the migration began. The 26th started out the same but has flurries in the afternoon. By evening, the temp was around 35 degrees and calm, so I figured I would head out and see what has woken. I saw a Jefferson’s and a Spotted salamander in a pond, none overland. There were several Spring peepers in the background with their characteristic early spring raspy peep. As the season progresses, their call will clean up and become more piercing. It looks like temps will stay in the lower 30’s for the next several days, So I think that no great number of frogs will start calling. Wood frogs are next in this area and hopefully I will hear some Chorus frogs which are in a decline in the area.
